  1. This is a great topic; I was wondering, what does research say, or does it, about a line of when a person has a "cyber addiction"? We are constantly using media, especially with the younger generations. I am curious to know what experts say in this regard and how much time would be consider too much when you consider we can be on a computer, phone, etc. throughout the day.

  2. I also am wondering what defines a cyber "addiction." Also how is "multitasking" in media defined? If I listen to my ipod while doing homework does that count as multitasking? Or would it require more intense use, such as constantly changing songs or being on facebook on it at the same time.

  3. My question to you guys is what is this doing to young children? There are a lot of parents that hand their 2 or 3-year-old child their phone when the child is upset just to keep them quiet. It doesn't take long for the kids to learn how to work it or how to get what they want, so what effect is this having on the young kids who are still growing?

  4. Courtney,

I will be curious to find out as well, in regards to how much time is too much! If I come across that information I will let you know. Great question! Also - I went to a Cyber Addiction workshop - when I summarize my notes I will post what I learned. It was great information. The book that I am reading is called Distracted - I got a copy of it for pre-registering for the workshop! [Bonus :)] I plan to write a review of some of the things that I read - I bet it will discuss what you are asking about the definition of Cyber Addiction. If you look at the book reviews tab I have posted the book cover and a link to a blog written by the author. Very interesting!

  5. Hi Monica - I think my most recent post might address some of what you have asked here. I will look into it and see if I can find something specific about how multitasking is defined but if I am remembering correctly it is anytime that you have more than one form of technology in use....like me tonight - listening to a History Channel story on "Herding Cats" and doing homework. I am pretty sure I could better and would actually process/learn more if I turned the TV off! ;)

ps: Herding cats? Who knew people have actually tried that? And it is interesting enough for an entire hour of television. Or is it?

  6. Taylor - This is a great question. I watched a very short program just last week maybe about an almost two year old [maybe closer to one] who did NOT know how to deal with a magazine. They showed the child playing with an iPad and then trying to use a magazine and acting like (maybe even said) it was broken. I will see if I can find that video to link on the blog.

  8. Awesome topic. My question is, how is Cyber Addiction affecting personal relationships today? I wonder if it is inhibiting young peoples abilities to communicate with one another verbally. Is our next generation going to have any communication skills if they aren't plugged into some sort of high-tech device?

  9. Has there been any research regarding what the next 10-20 years will look like with cyber addiction? Or if and how technology will affect us more?

  11. I love this topic because when I was growing up I didn't have none of this, I will just play outside, get dirty, take a shower and sleep. So I am really interested in knowing, is this affecting the behavior or chores the kid has to do in school?
